IBM SOA Foundation

There's a lot to IBM's approach to SOA and it gets complicated. We're trying to organize that into a single, organized story we call the IBM SOA Foundation.

The Foundation is "an integrated, open-standards-based set of software, best practices and patterns for Service-Oriented Architecture." Learn more at Mastering SOA: SOA Foundation. The Foundation works hand-in-hand with the SOA Entry Points.

Whitepaper

The main overview of the Foundation is the whitepaper "IBM SOA Foundation: An architectural introduction and overview."

The IBM SOA Foundation is "a comprehensive architecture and set of offerings, technologies, and practices that address all of these things about SOA":

  • a holistic relationship between the business and the IT organization
  • the tools and methodologies for capturing business design
  • using that design information to help improve the business
  • the tools, programming model and techniques for implementing the business design in information systems
  • the middleware infrastructure for hosting that implementation
  • the management of that implementation to ensure availability to the business
  • to ensure efficient use of resources in the execution of that implementation
  • the establishment of who has authority and the processes that are used to control changes in the business design and its implementation in the information system
  • accelerate the time-to-value for these benefits

An earlier version of the whitepaper is "IBM SOA Foundation: Providing what you need to get started with SOA."
