IBM WebSphere Portal V5.1, Deployment and Administration 

Exam Competencies:


The test consists of 6 sections containing approximately 59 multiple-choice questions. The percentage after each section, reflects the approximate distribution of the total question set across the sections.

Section 1 - Installing and Configuring WebSphere Portal V5 (19%)

  1. Understand product prerequisites
  2. Select correct components for installation based on the architected solution
  3. Describe the contents of the initial Portal V5 install
  4. Configure any preinstalled components to support the architected solution
  5. Establish LDAP authentication mode. eg Database only, database and LDAP, or custom registry
  6. Configure WebSphere Member Manager
  7. Build response files and complete silent installation
  8. Use and implement configuration templates
  9. Utilize both graphical user interface and command line tools to conduct install implementations
  10. Understand the use of the portal property files

Section 2 - Architecting a Portal Solution (15%)

  1. Identify components of the current infrastructure that require integration
  2. Utilize out-of-the-box portlets and the portlet catalog
  3. Administer parallel portlet rendering
  4. Understand and implement clustering (horizontal and vertical)
  5. Design end-to-end portal architecture using best practices

Section 3 - Implementing and Administering Portal Security (12%)

  1. Create and administer the credential vaults
  2. Modify default passwords for WebSphere Portal and related components
  3. Enable SSL between components
  4. Manage user registries [incl custom registries via WebSphere Member Manager]
  5. Configure authentication proxies, e.g., Tivoli Access Manager and Netegrity Site Manager
  6. Administer Portal roles and authorization

Section 4 - Customizing and Administering Pages (20%)

  1. Describe possibilities of branding
  2. Administer/implement skins for portlets
  3. Administer/implement themes for pages
  4. Customize/understand portal navigation concepts [and page hierarchy]
  5. Configure page layouts
  6. Use xmlaccess to manage pages
  7. Implement custom unique names
  8. Implement URL mapping
  9. Select proper ways to backup and restore themes and skins
  10. Describe the content root of WebSphere Portal

Section 5 - Configuring and Maintaining Portlets (15%)

  1. Install, update and delete portlet applications
  2. Copy portlets and portlet applications
  3. Understand concept of portlets, portlet apps, concrete portlets, concrete portlet apps, concrete portlet instance and user portlet instance
  4. Manage portlet data and portlet application parameters
  5. Develop and maintain web clipping
  6. Configure cooperative portlets
  7. Configure and administer portal search engines

Section 6 - Maintenance and Troubleshooting (19%)

  1. Utilize log files in the trouble shooting process of product stack problems
  2. Enable tracing and analyze the results for portal components
  3. Describe migration options from WebSphere Portal V4 to WebSphere Portal V5
  4. Diagnose WebSphere Portal run-time problems
  5. Use xmlaccess to export, import and update configurations
  6. Manage the portal using WebSphere Portal config tool (wpsconfig)
  7. Diagnose installation and configuration problems.
  8. Uninstall and reinstall components
