Section 1 -
Planning - Given a new customer who
is evaluating IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Express (TSM Express) as their backup
solution, identify their backup and restore requirements, number of servers,
number of clients, and estimate total amount of data to move, so that the
customer's storage requirements are documented.
With emphasis on
performing the following steps:- Identify customer backup and
restore requirements.
- Identify the number of TSM servers required.
- Determine the number of TSM clients needed.
- Estimate total
amount of data to be moved daily.
- Given a customer with an
existing environment, identify OS of server machine, identify OS of client
machines, identify applications and data to be backed up, and Web browser in
use, so that we can determine if the existing software environment will support
a TSM Express installation.
With emphasis on performing the following
steps:- Identify operating system of the server machine
- Identify applications and data to be backed up such as Microsoft
Exchange and Microsoft SQL.
- Identify client machine operating systems.
Operating system (one of the following): Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit or
64-bit), Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (32- bit), Microsoft Windows Server 2003
(64-bit, x64 Editions only) Identify Web browsers in use. Supported Web browser
(one of the following): Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6.0 or higher or
Mozilla Firefox version 1.5.
- Given a customers' existing
hardware environment, verify server and client machines meet minimum
requirements, existing storage is supported, and network is suitable, so that
TSM Express can be successfully installed.
With emphasis on
performing the following steps:- Verify server hardware meets
minimum requirements Machine (one of the following): x32 single processor or
multiprocessor system or x64single processor or multiprocessor system *note:
Intel Itanium 64-bit processor is not supported Minimum memory and disk space
requirements: 1 GB RAM minimum and 30 GB minimum free space. Additional drives
for backup data (two for best backup performance).
- Verify client
hardware meets minimum requirements. Machine (one of the following): x32 single
processor or multiprocessor system or a x64 single processor or multiprocessor
system. *note: Intel Itanium 64-bit processor is not supported. Minimum memory
and disk space requirements: 128 MB RAM minimum (2- 3 GB for a large file
server), 85 MB disk space, 200 MB temporary disk space for remote deployment of
client software.
- Verify existing storage hardware is supported for TSM
Express.
- Verify existing network meets TSM Express requirements.
- Given a list of ports in use in the customer's environment,
compare list of ports in use with TSM Express default ports, and document which
ports need to be reassigned for TSM Express so that any port conflicts are
documented.

- Resolve any port conflicts prior to TSM Express
installation.
- Document which ports need to be reassigned for TSM

- Given a customer is planning for a TSM Express
implementation, determine the number of servers to be installed and the
location of those servers, so that an installation method can be
recommended.

so that all client backups are completed within the backup window.

machines to be backed up during this period of time.
- Determine how
much data changes per day.
- Look at default schedules and customize as
needed.
- Customize association of clients to schedules as needed.
- Given a customer who will be using tape media, determine
what type of device and how many tapes will be used on a daily basis, so that a
sufficient supply of tape media is always available for scratch.

emphasis on performing the following steps:- Determine what
type of device will be used.
- Review daily status report to determine
how much media is used on a daily basis.
- Given a customer
that uses a GFS tape rotation scheme and will be sending media offsite,
determine which media copies will be sent offsite, how often these tapes will
be sent offsite, print packing lists and review daily status so that all
necessary recovery media is available for disaster recovery.

media copies need to be sent offsite.

locally.
- Review daily status report to determine what media is set to
expire and can be returned for use.
Section 2 -
Installing - Given a project plan,
detailed design document and a clean production machine that is ready for TSM
Express, obtain and install the software, and verify the installation, so that
TSM Express installation is successfully completed.
With emphasis on
performing the following steps:- Purchase TSM Express software
and either download or have CDs delivered.
- Insert media into drive and
start the Setup Launchpad to begin the TSM Express installation.
- Select Install Required Components menu item to get Required
Components Panel.
- Click the Install Required Components link.
- Choose the language for the installer.
- Click next to get to
the page to Select a Language for the Backup Server. Select a language and
click next.
- Accept the license agreement and click next.
- Specify Disk locations for management and storage. Next.
- Set
admin password and email address for reports. Click next.
- Specify
additional email parameters.
- Specify TCPIP ports according to plan.
Click next.
- Review summary information and select install.
- Review summary information and click Finish to exit the wizard.
- Restart the system.
- Log in to the TSM Express Administrative
Interface.
- Given a successful installation of the TSM
Express backup server and a method of deployment has been determined for
clients, use the wizard to deploy client software to additional machines, so
that all clients have been successfully installed on all targeted client
machines.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- Select Computers and Applications from the My Work menu list.
- In the Computers and Applications panel, expand the select Action menu
and select Add Computers.
- Select next on the first page of the wizard
to get to the General Panel.
- On the General Panel enter the Hostname
or IP Address of one or more client machines. Click Next.
- Specify the
location of the backup client software, and provide a user name and password of
a Windows account which has administrative authority.
- Confirm settings
and click Finish.
- View the deployment status panel to confirm
successful completion.
- Given the TSM Express backup server
software has been installed, use the GUI interface to perform the initial TSM
Express server backup, so that the initial backup of the TSM Express server is
successfully completed, confirming the TSM Express server is functioning
properly.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- In the My Work menu, click Restore and Manual Backup.
- Click on
the name of the server to be backed up to launch the Administrative Interface.
- Expand the Disk Backup submenu.
- Select Back Up Computer to
begin the initial backup of the TSM Express server.
- When backup
completes, review the Detailed Status Report. Close when done.
- Given a customer who needs to uninstall TSM Express, use the Add or
Remove programs menu from the Control Panel in Windows to remove each of the
TSM Express components, delete any folders and registry entries remaining, and
reboot so that TSM Express is completely uninstalled.
With emphasis
on performing the following steps:- Launch Add or Remove
Programs from the Windows Control Panel.
- One at a time, select each of
the TSM Express components (IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Client, IBM Tivoli
Storage Manager Device Driver 5.3.7.0, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Express
Administrative Interface, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Express License 5.3.7.0,
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Express Server 5.3.7.0), and select Remove.
- Manually delete any remaining folders from the previous installation.
- In the registry, navigate to: HKLM -->SOFTWARE -->IBM -->ADSM
- Delete the ADSM folder.
- Reboot the machine to complete the
uninstall process.
Section 3 - Configuring - Given the customer's
security requirements, configure password length, password expiration, and
account lockout parameters, so that security requirements are met.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the
My Work menu, select Backup Server Settings, and choose the Security subtask.
- Configure password length.
- Configure number of days for
password expiration.
- Configure number of invalid sign-on attempts
allowed before a computer or administrator is locked out.
- Given customer requirements for additional administrator accounts, using
the TSM Express Administrative Interface create additional administrator
accounts, so that additional administrator accounts are available.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the
TSM Express Administrative Interface My Work menu, select Backup Server
Settings and choose the Administrators sub-task.
- Select Create
Administrator from the Select Action menu.
- Fill in the administrator
name, password, verify password, and provide e-mail address for reporting
purposes. Select Password expiration, e-mail reports and password reset values,
and select OK.
- Given a customer who has a tape library to
configure for TSM Express, check that the device is assigned to the correct
device driver, insert tapes in the library, and follow the steps in the wizard
to completion, so that the tape library is configured and available for use
with TSM Express.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- Check that the device is assigned the correct device driver in
the Windows Device Manager. The IBM LTO device requires the IBM device driver
and all other supported devices require the TSM device driver.
- If
tapes are available, insert them into the library before adding the library to
TSM Express.
From the TSM Express Administrative Interface select
the My Work menu, select Libraries, Drives and Tapes. Select Add a Library or
Standalone Drives. - The wizard to add a library is started. Click next to
continue. Follow the prompts and click Next until you get to General - Select
Device Type. Select Add a library and click Next.
- Fill in the Library
name, and use the drop-down menu below that field to choose the type of device
you are installing. Click Next and a scan of the tape library will begin when
complete, the Device Usage panel is displayed.
- In the Device Usage
panel, the option to Start using the new library to create media copies is
selected. You may also select the option to Start using the new library or
drive to back up the server database. Click Next to continue.
- Confirm
Settings panel is displayed. If any of the steps in the left panel are skipped,
it is because those steps were not required for your device. You will see
instructions to monitor the process of the job you just initiated. Click Finish
to continue, following the steps shown at the bottom of the pages if you choose
to monitor the process.
- Given an administrator needs to
receive reports at a new e-mail address, modify the administrator e-mail
address, so that the administrator receives reports at a new e-mail
address.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the TSM Express Administrative Interface select the My Work menu
and then select Backup Server Settings.
- In the Backup Server Settings
page, select Administrators.
- Click the Administrator name that you
want to modify.
- In the Modify a Backup Server Administrator panel,
change the e-mail address to show the correct address to send the reports to.
- Given the need to change which status reports an
administrator receives, modify the report subscriptions so that the
administrator receives the right reports.
With emphasis on performing
the following steps:- Within the TSM Express Administrative
Interface select the My Work menu and choose Reports.
- In the Reports
page choose Create or Modify a Report Subscription.
- In the Status
Report Subscriptions table, click the Administrator name you need to modify.
- In the ADMINISTRATOR Status Report Subscriptions page, select or
deselect available report subscriptions as needed, and you can also change the
Backup administrator's e-mail address if needed. When all selections are made,
click OK.
- Given the need to customize pre-configured
schedules and specify which computers will use them, review the schedules shown
in the Automatic Backups table, select a schedule, modify that schedule, and
select computers that will be backed up using that schedule, so that existing
schedules meet customer requirements.
With emphasis on performing the
following steps:- Within the TSM Express Administrative
Interface select the My Work menu, select Automatic Backups.
- In the
Automatic Backups table, review each of the backup schedules shown.
- To
modify IBM_DAILY_INCREMENTAL, select the radio button next to the this
schedule, and click modify in the Select Action menu.
- In the General
page, select Schedule Options tab.
- In the Schedule Options page you
can modify the schedule start time, and indicate a backup window in hours. When
finished click OK.
- In the Automatic Backups page, select the Computers
tab.
- In the Computers page, use the Select Action menu to either Add
computers to or remove computers from this schedule. Click OK.
- Given customer requirement for a new daily client backup schedule for
specific computers, create new schedule using the GUI interface, set
appropriate options, and associate computers with this schedule so that
requirements for scheduled backup processing are met.
With emphasis
on performing the following steps:- Within the TSM Express
Administrative Interface select the My Work menu, select Automatic Backups.
- In the Automatic Backups table, choose Create Schedule form the Select
Action menu.
- In the Welcome page, review the information presented,
and click Next.
- In the General page, fill in the Schedule name, select
the radio button to run the schedule Daily, and input the Schedule start time
and the Backup window (in hours). Click Next.
- In the Select Data Type
page, select File data and click Next.
- In the Select Backup Action
page, select the type of backup you wish to perform, Incremental or Image.
Select Next to continue.
- In the Select Computers page, select
computers that will use this schedule. Click Next.
- On the Confirm
Settings page, verify all the information you specified for the new schedule,
and click Finish.
- The Automatic Backups table now shows the new
schedule and the computer associated with that schedule.
- Given a customer needs to exclude specific folders for client backup,
launch the TSM Express Client Backup Interface, select the specific folders to
exclude, so that the client backups will not include those folders.
- With emphasis on performing the following steps:
Within the TSM Express Administrative Interface select the My Work menu,
select Restore and Manual Backup. Select the computer to modify. - In the TSM
Express Client Interface, click on Explore and Back Up Files hyperlink.
- In the Backup panel, expand the Local the file system tree. For each
folder to be excluded, select the checkbox and click the Exclude button.
- Exit the TSM Express Client Interface.
- Given the
customer needs to exclude specific file systems from client backup, use the TSM
Express Client Interface preferences editor to exclude file systems, so that
only necessary files are backed up.
With emphasis on performing the
following steps:- Within the TSM Express Administrative
Interface select the My Work menu, select Restore and Manual Backup. Select the
computer to modify.
- In the TSM Express Client Interface, click on
Modify Settings.
- In the Preferences Editor, click the Backup tab. In
the File Level Backup section, deselect the Back up all local file system
checkbox. Deselect the file systems that you want to exclude. Click OK.
- Exit the TSM Express Client Interface.
- Given a
Service Level Agreement that specifies disaster recovery requirements, set up
Daily Copies to a specific point-in-time so that SLA requirements for DR have
been met.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- Within the TSM Express Administrative Interface select the My Work
menu, select Copy Backups to Media.
- In the Copy Backups to Media page,
select Settings for Daily Copies.
- In the Settings for Daily copies
page, set appropriate time for media copies to run, select Copy data to tape as
the destination, and choose Add Computers or Applications from the Select
Action menu.
- The Add Computers and Applications table is displayed.
Select the computers and applications whose data will be included in the media
copy. Click Update Table.
- Select the computer you want to create a
media group for, and from the Select Action menu, choose Create Media Group.
- In the Create Media Group page, enter a media group name and click
Update Table.
- The Settings for Daily Copies page is displayed. Scroll
down to the Advanced Options, and expand the section. Set the number of days to
keep each daily copy, and specify the point-in-time for the data capture. Click
OK
Section 4 - Troubleshooting - Given a customers'
need for help from within TSM Express, click the Help link in the top right
corner, then click the Information Center icon so that help and information are
immediately provided.
With emphasis on performing the following
steps:- Click the Help link that is located in the top right
corner of every panel in TSM Express. This takes you to the context help page.
Inside that page you can launch the Information Center by clicking the
information icon (circle with an I in the middle).
- Given a
customer who is troubleshooting installation issues for the TSM Express
Administrative Interface, navigate to the install directory, open the
ui_install.log and review the contents, so that information in log can be
referenced to help determine cause of failure.
With emphasis on
performing the following steps:- Navigate to the installation
directory (default directory is C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM).
- Open
ui_install.log and review entries to determine where problem occurred.
- Given customer has a client software deployment failure,
access deployment logs and review contents, so that cause of the deployment
failure can be identified and corrective action can be taken.
With
emphasis on performing the following steps: - From the TSM
Express Administrative Interface select the My Work menu, select Computers and
Applications.
- Click the View Deployment Logs hyperlink at the bottom
of the page.
- The view deployment logs table is displayed. Review the
information in the table, and click an IP address to open a computer's
deployment log.
- Review the contents of the log, and the possible
reasons for the failure.
- Given a scheduled client backup
failure, review the Schedules table in System Status, the Last Backup Report,
and the dsmerror.log, so that the cause of the scheduled backup failure can be
determined.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the TSM Express Administrative Interface select the My Work menu
and select System Status and open the Schedules section. Filter the table
appropriately, and select Update Table. If the schedule was the cause of
failure, it will be shown here.
- If the schedule was not the cause,
find the specific client that failed, and document the name.
- From the
My Work menu, select Restore and Manual Backup.
- Click the name of the
computer that you documented earlier, to launch the client interface.
- In the Disk Backup section, select View Last Backup Report hyperlink.
- Review the Last Backup Report to find the reason for the failure. At
the bottom of the page, click the hyperlink that says Click here to see the
detailed error log. This opens the dsmerror.log.
- Review the
dsmerror.log for more detailed information.
- Given that the
TSM Express administrator need to monitor daily server activity, expand the
Activity Section, and update the table, so that activity log is
displayed.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the TSM Express Administrative Interface select the My Work menu,
click on the System Status link.
- Expand the Activity section, and
click Update Table.
- Given Daily Status reports that show
disk space is approaching a critical level, verify that unnecessary data is not
being backed up and adjust if needed, verify the types of backups are
appropriate and change where needed, verify that all backed up file spaces are
still valid, and then add disk space as needed, so that disk utilization issues
are identified and resolved.
With emphasis on performing the
following steps:- Verify that the computers and applications
are not backing up unnecessary files by reviewing the Disk Usage Report.
- If a computer or application is storing an excessive number of files,
consider limiting the types of files it can back up.
- Verify that the
types of backups are appropriate. If a computer does not require image backups,
consider removing it from the IBM_WEEKLY_IMAGE schedule.
- Verify that
all of the file spaces that have been backed up are still valid. To view the
file spaces stored for a computer or application, see the File Spaces tab in
its properties notebook. If a file space no longer exists on the computer or
application system, you can free some disk storage space by deleting it from
the backup server's disk storage.
- Verify that you have enough space
for copies of the backup server database. By default seven copies are kept, and
additional space must be added as the database grows.
- Verify that you
are keeping media copies for an appropriate amount of time. Verify that the
expiration settings for your media copies are appropriate for your tape
rotation.
- Adjust the amount of time you are keeping media copies if it
is excessive.
- Consider adding more disk storage. If necessary, you can
add another hard disk or shared drive. To begin using the new storage space,
add it to the backup server's disk storage location for backup data. To do this
click Backup Server Settings in the My Work area. Then click Disk Storage.
- Given that a media copy is created successfully for newly
added clients but warning messages are being generated in the Activity History
table, wait for the next scheduled time for the media copy and verify the newly
added clients have data for the media copy, so that if data is present the
media copy will no longer generate warning messages.
With emphasis
on performing the following steps:- Wait until the next
scheduled time for media copy creation.
- Verify that the newly added
clients have data for the media copy.
- Given a storage
device with incorrect device driver assigned, update the device driver so that
error is resolved and device is available.
With emphasis on
performing the following steps:- Update the device driver for
the storage devices using Windows Device Manager or the IBM Device Driver
process.
- The IBM LTO device requires the IBM device driver and all
other supported devices require the TSM device driver.
- Given poor tape utilization, review media copy retention values and
adjust appropriately, so that tape utilization improves to an expected
level.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- To verify that media copies are being kept for an appropriate amount of
time, go to the TSM Express Administrative Interface select the My Work menu,
and select Copy Backups to Media.
- Select Existing Copies.
- Review the expiration dates in the Expires column. If dates seem
excessive or says Never, you can adjust the amount of time the copy is kept.
- Select the media copy you wish to change, and from the Select Action
menu, choose Modify Expiration Date.
- In the Modify the Expiration Date
of a Media Copy page, you can select when to expire the media copy. Fill in the
required fields and click OK.
- The Existing Copies table should now
reflect the new expiration date.
- Given a need to open the
TSM Express Support Utility, navigate to the appropriate directory,
double-click the supportUtil.bat file, and enter the Backup Administrator name
and password, so that the TSM Express Support Utility is invoked.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- Open a
system command prompt.
- Navigate to your base install directory. The
default is c:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM Express\Utils
- In that
directory, type supportUtil.bat and enter.
- You will be prompted for
your Backup administrator name and password. Provide these values and enter.
- The TSM Express Support Utility can also be invoked by navigating the
same path described in the previous steps, by selecting the supportUtil.bat
file, through Windows Explorer or My Computer.
Section 5 -
Administering - Given, a scheduled
backup failure, run an administrator initiated backup, so that the client
backup is completed successfully.
With emphasis on performing the
following steps:- From the TSM Express Administrative
Interface, in the My Work menu, select Restore and Manual Backup.
- Click the Name of the node that had the failed backup to invoke the
Storage Manager Express Client interface.
- Expand the Disk Backup
section, and click Back Up Computer.
- Review the Detailed Status Report
to confirm the backup was successful, then close the Backup Report window.
- Given a situation where the administrator needs to restore
a file for a client machine, use the TSM Express Administrative Interface to
invoke the Tivoli Storage Manager Express Client interface, and restore the
file, so that the administrator has successfully restored a file for a client
machine.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the TSM Express Administrative Interface, in the My Work menu,
select Restore and Manual Backup.
- Click the Name of the node that
needs the file restored, to invoke the Storage Manager Express Client
interface.
- In the Restore section, select Restore File Wizard.
- The Restore Welcome page is displayed. Click Next.
- The Select
Version to Restore page is displayed. Under Show me, select the radio button
next to Files most recently backed up to disk (single version of each file.)
Click Next.
- Expand the directory tree to find the file to be restored.
- Select the check box for the file to be restored, and click Next.
- Select a destination for restored objects. Click Finish.
- Review the Detailed Status Report to confirm the restore is
successfully completed. Close the Restore Report window.
- Given client need to perform a manual backup of a file, launch the Tivoli
Storage Manager Express Client Interface, select explore and backup files, find
the file to back up, select the file and click restore, viewing status report
to verify completion, so that client has successfully run a manual backup of a
file.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the client machine, select Start --> Programs --> Tivoli Storage
Manager --> Backup Client.
- Expand the Disk Backup section, and click
Explore and Back Up Files.
- Expand the directory tree to find the file
you need to back up. Select the file, and click the Backup button.
- Review the Detailed Status Report to confirm the backup was
successful, and close the Backup Report window.
- Given
client need to perform a manual restore of a file, start the Tivoli Storage
Manager Backup Interface, expand the restore section, select the file to
restore, specify whether to overwrite if there is a restore collision issue,
and restore the file, so that the client file is restored.
With
emphasis on performing the following steps:- From the client
machine, select Start --> Programs --> Tivoli Storage Manager --> Backup
Client.
- Expand the Restore section, and click Explore and Restore
Files.
- Expand the directory tree to find the file you need to restore.
Select the file, and click the Restore button.
- In the Restore
Destination window, specify the restore location, and click Restore.
- If restoring to the same location and the file exists, select to
either Replace or Do not Replace.
- Review the Detailed Status Report to
confirm the restore was successful, and close the Restore Report window.
- Given a client that is unable to access the backup server
and needs their password reset, use the select action menu in the Computer and
Applications page to select Reset Password, and enter Windows user name and
password, so that the client password is reset, and the client can now access
the backup server.
With emphasis on performing the following
steps:- In the Tivoli Storage Manager Express Administrative
Interface, Select Computers and Application from the My Work menu.
- Select box next to the computer that needs to have the password reset,
and from the Select Action menu, choose Reset Password.
- Enter the
Windows User name and Windows password, and click OK.
- The new TSM
Express client password is generated.
- Given an
administrator needs to monitor processes, review the items in the To-Do's
table, and take appropriate actions, so that no pending tasks remain.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- In the
Tivoli Storage Manager Express Administrative Interface, select System Status
from the My Work menu.
- Expand the To-Do's section and review the
contents of the table.
- Use the Select Action menu to take action on
any items found in the list.
- Given an administrator need to
monitor errors, warnings, schedules and device status, navigate to the Hourly
Reports and review entire page, so that all recent errors, warnings, schedule
status and storage device status has been reviewed.
With emphasis on
performing the following steps:- In the TSM Express
Administrative Interface, select Reports from the My Work menu.
- Select
Hourly Reports.
- From here review the contents of the Activity History
for warning messages, Scheduled Events that did not complete successfully, and
Storage Devices that require attention.
- Given an
administrators' need to obtain a daily overview of the storage manager
environment, navigate to the Daily Reports and review entire page, so that all
recent errors, warnings, schedule status and storage device status has been
reviewed.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- In the TSM Express Administrative Interface, select Reports from the My
Work menu.
- Select Daily Status Report.
- From here review the
contents of the Disk Backup Schedules, Media Copy Schedules, Tape Utilization,
Backup Server Disk Utilization, and Media Copies Nearing Expiration.
- Given an administrators need to obtain a security overview
of computers, applications and backup administrators, access the security
report and view the contents of the Computers and Applications, and Backup
Server Administrators sections, so that an overview of security has been
reviewed.

- You will be prompted
for your backup administrator name and password. Provide these values and

6. Reset a backup administrator password, and enter.
- Enter the
administrator name that you want to reset the password for, and enter.
- Enter the new password, enter, confirm the new password, and enter.
- You will see a message that says Password successfully reset. Enter
option 9 to Exit the utility.

to manage offsite tape rotation, find name of expiring media list in To-Do's
section of System Status, and use that to find emailed packing list that shows
list of expiring media, recall tape volumes from offsite storage, and check-in
to library, so that daily media copy tape rotation is managed.

Storage Manager Express Administrator Interface, select System Status from the
My Work menu.
- Expand the To-Do's section.
- Document the name
of the media copy.
- Review emails to find the packing list that has the
corresponding media copy name.
- Use this list as a guide to recall the
tapes from offsite.
- To check tapes into library so they are available
for reuse, click Copy Backups to Media in the My Work menu. Click on Existing
Copies.
- Click on Media Copy name to view the volumes.
- Select
the volumes that need to be checked in and from the Select Action menu click
Check In.
- The Check-in Tapes page is displayed and select the radial
button next to Search for all eligible tapes in the libraries entry-exit ports.
Click OK.
- Click System Status in the My Work menu. Expand the To Do's
section. In the Select Action menu click Refresh table.
- Respond to any
requests pending for tape check in processes.
- Given an
administrator' need add disk storage and make it available to TSM Express,
access the Backup Server Settings from the My Work menu, click Disk Storage,
and append the path of the new disk storage to the existing Directory path,
using a comma-separated list, so that newly added disk storage can be used by
TSM Express to store data.

steps:- In the TSM Express Administrative Interface, select
Backup Server Settings from the My Work menu
- Select Disk Storage.
- Append the path of the new disk storage to the existing Directory
path, using a comma-separated list. Click OK

to add new tapes to the tape library, select Libraries, Drives, and Tapes from
the My Work menu, choose Work with Tapes, and use the Check In option available
from the Select Action menu, so that new tapes are check in the library and
available for TSM Express to use.

following steps:- In the TSM Express Administrative Interface,
select Libraries, Drives, and Tapes from the My Work menu.
- Select Work
with Tapes.
- Choose Check In from the Select Action menu.
- On
the Welcome page, click Next.
- On the Select Tape Status section, you
will specify whether the tapes contain valid data or not. Choose the radio
button next to the option Are either empty or contain no valid data. Overwrite
any existing data. Click Next.
- In the Select tape location, leave the
default and click Next.
- In the Confirm settings page, you will be
prompted to place the tapes in the entry-exit port of the library and click
Finish.
- To monitor the process, click System Status and expand
Activity. If there are any tasks in the To-Do section, respond using the
options in the Select Action menu.

Maintaining - Given that a TSM
Express fix pack has been released, determine when to install the fix pack,
deploy and evaluate it in a non-production environment, then install the fix
pack in production, so that the fix pack has been installed and verified.
With emphasis on performing the following steps:- Obtain the fix pack and related documentation.
- Determine if
any prerequisites exist.
- Determine timeframe for updating.
- Deploy and evaluate the fix pack in a non-production environment.
- Install the fix pack in a production environment.
- Verify
successful installation in the TSM Express GUI.
