Test 869: System i Technical Solutions – Implementation (including i5/OS V5R4)

Overview Objectives Test Preparation

Use the exam objectives below in conjunction with the description of the job role and prerequisites/experience required for the exam to help you decide if the exam is appropriate for your expertise, skill, and experience.

To prepare for the certification exam, review the exam objectives as a tool to help you understand the scope of the exam and the topic areas you may need to study. An additional exam preparation tool is the assessment exam, which is available for a nominal fee.

Each topic area in the exam covers a specific number of questions in the exam. The percentage listed in the section title below indicates the relative amount of content included in the exam for that particular topic area.

Questions on the exam can be based on business or technical scenarios.

Planning for Migration and Critical Tasks (20%)

  1. Verify the compatibility of I/O devices (tape, disk, terminals, printers) and application software for the target system.
  2. Analyze and explain the migration capacity and availability requirements during migration activities (for example, RAID to Mirroring, new versus old RAID striping/exposure during rebuild).
  3. Identify compatibility/interface issues for software and multiple applications on the system.
  4. Develop the plan for testing application software performance (for example, data integrity and performance).
  5. Plan for various operating system ordering and distribution options.
  6. Determine communications requirements.
  7. Plan the system software installation and configuration.

Hardware Implementation (19%)

  1. Configure disk storage units.
  2. Configure external system devices (for example, SAN, racks, IXAs, iSCSI, and so on).
  3. Configure attached PCs (using iSeries Access or iSeries Navigator).
  4. Implement the available Ethernet adaptors (10/100, Gigabit Fibre, Gigabit UTP).
  5. Implement Fibre Channel and SCSI attachments for disk and tape, including SAN fabric.
  6. Implement RIO/RIO-G, HSL/HSL-2, SPCN.
  7. Re-deploy hardware resources per the implementation requirements.
  8. Migrate an existing LPAR configuration to an i5 LPAR configuration.

Software Implementation (8%)

  1. Install and configure IBM licensed program products (for example, license keys, feature codes, cryptographic support, cumulative/group fix packages, SLIC refreshes, and PM iSeries).
  2. Use iSeries Navigator to navigate and maintain System i hardware and software.
  3. Configure the System i using iSeries Navigator (for example, IP host, Name, Address).
  4. Implement applications (for example, Domino, WAS, and so on).

HMC/Console Implementation (8%)

  1. Verify/change the console configuration as required (for example, service HMC/Operations/LAN console).
  2. Implement the console and change it if necessary.
  3. Service the HMC/console (for example, HMC updates, repairs, HMC backup and recovery, WebSM, and so on).

System Resource Configuration and Communications Setup (19%)

  1. Configure work management on System i.
  2. Set up security and user profiles.
  3. Perform dynamic LPAR management (for example, memory, processor, and resources).
  4. Configure and implement independent ASPs and clustering.
  5. Configure LAN/WAN communications, including Enterprise Extenders and Intrusion Detection.
  6. Use iSeries Navigator to set up and configure System i communications.
  7. Use non-5250 interface configuration functions and tools, including browser-based interfaces, ASMI, and HTTP adminstration server.

Backup and Recovery: Planning and Implementation (8%)

  1. Plan and implement back-up and recovery procedures using CL, BRMS, iSeries Navigator, Tivoli TSM, Tivoli client, and virtual tape.
  2. Implement the plan to recover from disasters and/or outages, including high availability and disaster recovery.
  3. Determine backup and recovery requirements and strategies, including migration.

Implementing Ongoing Support (9%)

  1. Establish software maintenance and support responsibility.
  2. Order PTFs and server firmware fixes, perform PTF and server firmware fix installation and release updates, and demonstrate tools and techniques for preventative service (PTFs) on i5/OS internal code and licensed programs, including Service Agent (ECS).
  3. Perform and explain methods for tuning the system and workload balancing (for example, IBM's performance tools, Management Central, and PM iSeries).
  4. Use Management Central/HMC to manage and monitor multiple System i servers.
  5. Use appropriate CL commands.

System Problem Determination (9%)

  1. Identify communication problems and perform communication traces.
  2. Use system information to diagnose problems.
  3. Interpret system messages.
  4. Locate and record all SRC codes and determine their meaning.
  5. Use non-i5/OS system logging to identify and resolve problems (for example, HTTP server, WebSphere, Domino, DNS, and so on).
