If you are knowledgeable with DB2 9 and are capable of performing the intermediate to advanced skills required in the day-to-day administration of DB2 instances and databases, you may benefit from this certification role. 

Section 1 - DB2 Server Management (22%)

  1. Ability to configure/manage DB2 instances (e.g. scope)
  2. Ability to obtain/modify database manager configuration information
  3. Ability to obtain/modify database configuration information
  4. Knowledge of the DB2 force command
  5. Ability to configure client/server connectivity
  6. Ability to schedule jobs
  7. Ability to use Automatic Maintenance (i.e., RUNSTAT, Backup, REORG)
  8. Ability to configure client server connectivity using DISCOVERY
  9. Skill in interpreting the Notify log
  10. Ability to obtain and modify DB2 registry variables
  11. Ability to use Self-tuning memory managemer and autoconfig
  12. Ability to use Throttling utilities)

Section 2 - Data Placement (16%)

  1. Ability to create a database
  2. Skill in discussing the use of schemas
  3. Skill in discussing the various table space states
  4. Ability to create and manipulate the various DB2 objects
  5. Ability to create and discuss the characteristics of an SMS tablespace
  6. Ability to create and discuss the characteristics of an automated managed tablespace
  7. Knowledge of partitioning capabilities (e.g., Table partitioning, Hash partitioning, MDC, Hybrid)
  8. Knowledge of XML structure (indexing for performance)
  9. Knowledge of compression data

Section 3 - Database Access (12%)

  1. Knowledge of the creation and management of indexes
  2. Ability to create constraints on tables (e.g., RI, Informational, Unique)
  3. Ability to create views on tables
  4. Skill in examining the contents of the System Catalog tables
  5. Ability to use the GUI Tools for administration
  6. Knowledge of how to enforce data uniqueness

Section 4 - Analyzing DB2 Activity (13%)

  1. Ability to capture and analyze EXPLAIN/VISUAL EXPLAIN information
  2. Ability to capture snapshots using Get Snapshots or SQL functions
  3. Ability to create and activate event monitors
  4. Ability to configure Health Monitor using the Health Center
  5. Ability to identify the functions of Problem Determination Tools (e.g, db2pd, db2mtrk)

Section 5 - Utilities (14%)

  1. Ability to use EXPORT utility to extract data from a table
  2. Ability to use IMPORT utility to insert data into a table
  3. Ability to use the LOAD utility to insert data into a table
  4. Knowledge to identify when to use IMPORT vs. LOAD
  5. Ability to use the REORG, REORGCHK, REBIND and RUNSTATS utilities
  6. Ability to use DB2Move, DB2Look and DB2Batch
  7. Knowledge of the functionality of the DB2 Advisors (db2advis utility)
  8. Ability to use the DB2 Control Center

Section 6 - High Availability (14%)

  1. Ability to perform database-level and table space level BACKUP & RESTORE
  2. Knowledge to identify and explain issues on index recreation
  3. Knowledge of database logging
  4. Knowledge of crash recovery
  5. Knowledge of version recovery
  6. Knowledge of Roll Forward recovery
  7. Knowledge of and ability to perform HADR
  8. Knowledge of and ability to perform Log Mirroring
  9. Knowledge of Configurable Online Parameters

Section 7 - Security (9%)

  1. Knowledge of DB2 authentication
  2. Knowledge of DB2 authorizations
  3. Ability to set user and/or group privileges
  4. Knowledge of the DB2 Security Infrastructure (e.g. LBAC and Security Plug-ins)
