If you are knowledgeable with DB2 Universal Database V8.1 and are capable of performing the intermediate to advanced skills required in the day-to-day administration of DB2 instances and databases, you may benefit from this certification role. 

Section 1 - DB2 Server Management (19%)

  1. Ability to configure/manage DB2 instances (e.g. scope)
  2. Knowledge of DB2 authentication
  3. Knowledge of DB2 authorizations
  4. Ability to set user and/or group privileges
  5. Knowledge of the DB2 force command
  6. Ability to configure client/server connectivity
  7. Ability to schedule jobs
  8. Ability to configure client server connectivity using DISCOVERY
  9. Skill in interpreting the Notify log

Section 2 - Data Placement (17%)

  1. Ability to create a database
  2. Skill in discussing the use of schemas
  3. Skill in discussing the various table space states
  4. Ability to create and manipulate the various DB2 objects
  5. Ability to create and discuss the characteristics of an SMS tablespace
  6. Ability to create and discuss the characteristics of a DMS tablespace

Section 3 - Database Access (17%)

  1. Ability to create DB2 Tasks using the GUI tools
  2. Knowledge of the creation and management of indexes
  3. Ability to create constraints on tables (e.g., RI, Informational, Unique)
  4. Ability to create views on tables
  5. Skill in examining the contents of the System Catalog tables
  6. Ability to use GUI Tools to access DB objects
  7. Knowledge of how to enforce data uniqueness

Section 4 - Monitoring DB2 Activity (16%)

  1. Ability to obtain/modify database manager configuration information
  2. Ability to obtain/modify database configuration information
  3. Ability to capture EXPLAIN/VISUAL EXPLAIN information
  4. Skill in analyzing EXPLAIN/VISUAL EXPLAIN information (sortheap, buffpage, degree)
  5. Ability to identify the functions of the DB2 Governor and Query Patroller
  6. Ability to obtain and modify DB2 registry variables
  7. Ability to capture snapshots
  8. Ability to create and activate event monitors
  9. Ability to Identify output from the Health Center

Section 5 - DB2 Utilities (17%)

  1. Ability to use EXPORT utility to extract data from a table
  2. Ability to use IMPORT utility to insert data into a table
  3. Ability to use the LOAD utility to insert data into a table
  4. Knowledge to identify when to use IMPORT vs. LOAD
  5. Ability to use the REORG, REORGCHK, REBIND and RUNSTATS utilities
  6. Ability to use DB2Move and DB2Look
  7. Knowledge of the functionality of the DB2 Advisors
  8. Ability to use the DB2 Control Center

Section 6 - Backup and Recovery (14%)

  1. Ability to perform database-level and table space level BACKUP & RESTORE
  2. Knowledge to identify and explain issues on index recreation
  3. Knowledge of database logging
  4. Knowledge of crash recovery
  5. Knowledge of version recovery
  6. Knowledge of Roll Forward recovery
