If you are knowledgeable with IBM IMS and are capable of performing the intermediate to advanced skills required in the day-to-day administration of IMS databases, you may benefit from this certification role. 

Section 1 - Physical Design (24%)

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of hierarchical sequence
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of data storage and retrieval options
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of phyical design parameters
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of VSAM and OSAM access methods
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of database indexes
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of buffer pools


Section 2 - DBRC (12%)

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of database registration
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of DBRC management
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of log archiving
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of RECON datasets content
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of definition of HALDB and non-recoverable databases


Section 3 - Utilities (10%)

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of on-line and off-line reorg
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of recovery of IMS databases
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of rebuilding indexes
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of reorganization of databases including those with logical relations and indexes
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of generation utilities


Section 4 - DL1 (11%)

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of DFSDDLT0
  2. Knowledge of command/database laguages
  3. Knowledge of command codes
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of application checkpointing
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of contents of the PCB mask and I/O areas
  6. Knowledge of metadata usage


Section 5 - Backup and Recovery (15%)

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of database backup options
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of logging and log data sets
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of database recovery
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of log utilities and change acum for recovery


Section 6 - Operations (11%)

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of database commands
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of database management
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of fault tolerance
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of physical design change implementation
  5. Knowledge of DRD


Section 7 - Sysplex (6%)

  1. Knowledge of IMS database operation for implementation in a sysplex configuration
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of coupling facility structures
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of change accumulation
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of lock management considerations


Section 8 - Troubleshooting (6%)

  1. Demonstrate ability to maneuver IMS documentation
  2. Knowledge of problem determination tools
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of contention issues
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of performance tuning issues and resolutions
