Design and planning (14%)
- Design a virtualized environment which minimizes single points of failure
- Design a network between partitions using virtual or physical connections
- Given a situation, determine the correct number of OS licenses, software licenses, or entitlements that are required
- Use the System Planning Tool (SPT) to plan a new virtualized environment or to plan the addition of hardware to an existing virtualized environment
Considerations and related tasks for the host partition (VIO Server providing resources, IBM i providing resources, and considerations for client partitions using these resources) (18%)
- Given a situation, determine if HMC or VIO Server (including IVM) is appropriate
- Implement a single or dual VIO Server environment
- Upgrade a single or dual VIO Server environment
- Configure disk resources on the host (including using traditional disk, SSD, and disk presented to the host from a SAN)
- Configure network resources on the host
- Configure tape and optical devices on the host (virtual and physical)
Considerations and related tasks for the client partition (hosted partitions on Blades, on the system, including other Operating Systems) (14%)
- Manage a hosted IBM i partition using HMC, VIO Server (including IVM), or a hosting IBM i partition
- Implement a hosted IBM i partition (including uploading System Plans to the HMC)
- Implement a hosted AIX or Linux partition
- Determine how the client partition should be hosted (IBM i hosting an IBM i partition, VIO Server hosting it, or IBM i on a Blade)
- Migrate a single image system to a partition, and vice versa, and clone partitions
Storage management skills (14%)
- Configure disk storage in a client partition (for example, directly attached disk, disk provided by a VIO Server [and mirrored volume groups], disk provided by a SAN)
- Add or remove disk storage
- Configure tape and optical devices in a client partition (included dedicated fibre, NPIV, SAS, etc)
- Manage shared disk resources (iASPS, etc)
- Configure disk protection (mirroring, RAID, etc.)
Firmware management and integration (8%)
- Given a situation, determine the optimal method for updating HMC or FSP firmware (or both)
- Install a firmware fix/update on the FSP using the HMC,VIO Server, IVM, or from the service partition (IBM i)
- Install a firmware fix/update on the HMC
- Describe the interdependencies of HMC and system firmware
Performance and tuning (8%)
- Manage shared processing resources, including processors, virtual processors, shared processor pools, memory and memory pools.
- Diagnose typical performance problems in virtualized environments
HMC, FSP and VIO Server Management (25%)
- Configure and diagnose network connections to the HMC and FSP (single and dual HMC environments)
- Create a traditional partition using the HMC (including uploading System Plans), VIO Server, or IVM
- Use scripts and the HMC scheduler to automate tasks
- Manage HMC and VIO Server users and permissions
- Diagnose typical partition problems, including using logs
- Use IVM to manage IBM i on a Blade
- Describe Live Partition Mobility and Suspend/Resume at a high level
- Describe the effects of starting or stopping a partition from the HMC, especially if the partition hosts other partitions
- Use HMC, VIO Server, or IVM, to allocate resources to a partition, move resources between partitions, and manage partition profiles and operating characteristics
