This certification validates the skills required to plan, design, install, configure, and maintain IBM High Performance servers. The IBM Certified Expert will provide solution design and implementation support. This certified individual will also work to provide longer-term technical support activities including problem solving and resolution. Section 1 - Evaluate and Establish Customer Environment and Plans (71%) - Evaluate and document current customer environment (i.e. equipment, software, staff usage, satisfaction, need for change and growth)
- Describe Modular System features, architectural advantages relevant to customer environment and plans.
- Contrast with current customer environment and competitive offerings at a level consistent with the customer audience. These features include:
- Current and commonly occurring previous versions of Modular Systems
- Related software and middleware including VMware.
- Energy efficiency
- Consolidation and virtualization
- Business resilience and security
- Storage products and storage management including backup and recovery options
- I/O options
- Systems management (i.e. IBM Director)
- Identify opportunities. Solve customer business problems using tools, methods and processes including:
- Benchmarks
- Capacity planning tools
- Financial modeling tools
- Server consolidation tools
- TechLine
Section 3 - Apply Information / Installation Planning / Migration Considerations (24%) - Create accurate including configuration for hardware; identify software, and services based upon the needs and expectations of the customer, consider physical site requirements.
- Identify areas of risk, discuss with customer, relevant business partner(s), and IBM team.
- Create a mutually developed implementation plan with the customer.
- Server consolidation tools
- Implementation plan for Microsoft Datacenter
- Create team of customer, IBM and other vendor members including storage and network
- System management, including RSA and IBM Director integration with existing environment
- Migrating data, or SAN configuration
- x3950 multi node configuration, memory, storage and processor configurations, understand memory fault tolerance capabilities
Section 4 - Installation and Post Install Support (5%) - Ensure implementation plan is executed per requirements, and the customer expectations have been met including engaging IBM post install support and system tuning
