Overview Objectives Test Preparation

Section 1: Planning

  1. Given the customer input, Statement of Work, and IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Transactions V7.1 (ITCAM for Transactions) architecture, identify the monitoring environment so that a deployment plan can be created.


  2. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Identify the customer's monitoring requirements.
    2. Identify the existing IBM Tivoli Monitoring installation if it exists.
    3. Identify the applications, transactions, transaction flow, and servers to be monitored.
    4. Identify the network topology.
    5. Identify firewall configuration information.
    6. Identify the systems that appropriate ITCAM for Transactions components should be installed.

  3. Given the product documentation and access information, verify the prerequisites and access controls so that the hardware and software levels meet the minimum requirements or upgrades recommended to the customer.


  4. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Verify and map the prerequisites for all components (hardware and software) to the deployment plan.
    2. Resolve gaps.
    3. Identify and resolve permission issues.
    4. Resolve the size and scalability of the resources.
    5. Ensure there are no preexisting ARM libraries installed.

Section 2: Installation

  1. Given the deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, install the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agents (TEMAs) so that the TEMAs are available to be configured for measuring the response time of various applications.


  2. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Verify that the network monitor driver is installed on Windows Web Response Time agent machines.
    2. Install the TEMAs (including the Application Management Console (AMC)) on Windows.
    3. Install the TEMAs (including the AMC) on UNIX/Linux.
    4. Use the remote deployment feature to install the TEMAs if necessary.

  3. Given the customer's deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, install the IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Transactions V7.1 (ITCAM for Transactions) application support files on Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server (TEMS) so that the appropriate attributes and situations will be available.


  4. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Install the TEMS support on Windows.
    2. Install the TEMS support on UNIX/Linux.

  5. Given the customer's deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, install the ITCAM for Transactions application support files on Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS) so that the appropriate workspaces will be available.


  6. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Install TEPS support on Windows.
    2. Install TEPS support on UNIX/Linux.
    3. Install Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) browser client support on UNIX/Linux.

  7. Given the customer's deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, install the ITCAM for Transactions application support files on TEP clients so that the appropriate workspaces will be shown in the appropriate format.


  8. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Install TEP desktop client support desktop on Windows.
    2. Install TEP desktop client support on UNIX/Linux.

  9. Given the customer's deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, install the Rational Robot (RR) on Windows so that synthetic transactions can be recorded and played back.


  10. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Install RR on Windows.

  11. Given the customer's deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, install the Rational Performance Tester (RPT) so that synthetic transactions can be recorded.


  12. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Install RPT on Windows and Linux.
    2. Install the RPT Workbench plug-in if needed.

  13. Given the customer's deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, install the appropriate data collectors so that data collectors are ready to be configured.


  14. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Install appropriate data collectors.

  15. Given the customer's deployment plan, product installation guide, and media, run the silent installation process so that the TEMAs, application support files, and the RPT are installed.


  16. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Run silent installation on Windows - Perform a silent install of a monitoring agent (Windows).
    2. Run silent installation on UNIX or Linux - Perform a silent install and configuration for a monitoring agent (UNIX or Linux).
    3. Install application support for the agent - Install application support for Windows or install application support for Linux and UNIX using a silent installation.
    4. Install RPT using the silent install method.

Section 3: Configuration

  1. Given an installed Robotic Response Time (RRT) Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agent (TEMA) and Application Management Console (AMC), installed robotic software and proper access controls, configure RRT agent and create robotic scripts so that application response time and availability can be measured.


  2. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Run the configuration command to configure all the robotic monitoring components and the AMC.
    2. Run the robotic script manually.
    3. Record robotic scripts.
    4. Upload robotic scripts.
    5. Create, or modify, and deploy an AMC profile to schedule playback of the robotic script.
    6. Create IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) monitoring situations to manage applications.

  3. Given an installed Web Response Time (WRT) TEMA, and configured AMC and proper access controls, configure WRT agent so that WRT and availability can be measured.


  4. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Configure the WRT agent connection to a monitoring server.
    2. Configure the WRT to monitor web servers.
    3. Install and configure filters for the monitored web servers if necessary.
    4. Configure the attributes for appliance mode and performance parameters if necessary.
    5. Create, or modify, and deploy an AMC profile to define web transactions.
    6. Create ITM situations to monitor applications.

  5. Given an installed Client Response Time (CRT) TEMA, and configured AMC and proper access controls, configure CRT agent so that CRT and availability can be measured.


  6. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Configure the CRT agent connection to a monitoring server.
    2. Use the default or create the behavior file (using the ETEWatch Customizer).
    3. Create, or modify, and deploy an AMC profile.
    4. Create ITM situations to monitor applications.

  7. Given an installed Transaction Collector TEMA, and configured AMC and proper access controls, configure the Transaction Collector agent so that the proper information can be collected.


  8. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Configure the Transaction Collector agent connection to a monitoring server.
    2. Configure the Transaction Collector monitoring parameters.

  9. Given an installed Transaction Reporter TEMA, and configured AMC and proper access controls, configure the Transaction Reporter agent so that the proper information can be collected.


  10. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Configure the Transaction Reporter agent connection to a monitoring server.
    2. Configure the Transaction Reporter monitoring parameters.
    3. Create, or modify, and deploy an AMC profile.
    4. Create ITM situations to monitor applications.

  11. Given the proper access controls, and that the Transaction Collector and reporter agents are installed, configure data collectors as required so that transaction response times are collected.


  12. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Configure WebSphere MQ, IHS, DB2, WebSphere, and applications as required to enable Transaction Tracking.
    2. For a remote Transaction Collector (ARM), copy the required files (by platform) to the remote host and set the required environment variables as needed.

  13. Given the proper access controls, an installed Internet Service Monitoring (ISM) TEMA and Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server support, configure the ISM agent so that the availability and response time of required internet services can be monitored.


  14. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Configure the ISM agent connection to a monitoring server.
    2. Create and deploy ISM profiles.
    3. Create ITM situations to monitor network applications.

Section 4: Administration

  1. Given the deployment plan, and that Tivoli Data Warehouse (TDW) is installed and running and application support files for IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Transactions V 7.1 (ITCAM for Transactions) are installed, configure historical data collection, summarization, and data pruning so that access to ITCAM for Transactions historical data is obtained.


  2. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Identify the attributes group specified in the deployment plan.
    2. Configure and start historical collection for the attribute groups for ITCAM for Transactions in the TDW.
    3. Set up the data collection time.
    4. Set the summarization and pruning intervals.

  3. Given an installed Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agent (TEMA),Rational Robot (RR),and Rational Performance Tester (RPT), perform the necessary tasks so that the TEMA, RR,and RPT are uninstalled from Windows, UNIX, or Linux platforms.


  4. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Unconfigure the data collector from the appropriate platform.
    2. Uninstall the RR on Windows.
    3. Uninstall the RPT on Windows and Linux.
    4. Uninstall TEMA from a Windows platform.
    5. Uninstall TEMA from a UNIX (or Linux) platform.

  5. Given a configured ITCAM for Transactions environment, analyze workspace data so that the performance and availability of the applications can be determined.


  6. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Analyze data within the Robotic Response Time TEMA workspaces.
    2. Analyze data within the Web Response Time TEMA workspaces.
    3. Analyze data within the Client Response Time TEMA workspaces.
    4. Analyze data within the Application Management Console TEMA workspaces.
    5. Analyze data within the Transaction Tracking TEMA workspaces.

Section 5: Problem Determination

  1. Given a failed IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Transactions V 7.1 (ITCAM for Transactions) Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agent (TEMA) installation, and that Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server (TEMS) and Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS) are installed and functioning correctly, troubleshoot the installation so that the TEMA is installed correctly.


  2. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Determine if the installation has failed.
    2. Locate and analyze the common and TEMA installation log files.
    3. Locate and analyze platform specific trace information.

  3. Given an installed ITCAM for Transactions TEMA and no data in the workspaces, and that TEMS and TEPS are installed and functioning correctly, troubleshoot the non-functional TEMA so that data can be displayed.


  4. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Identify if the appropriate TEMA application support is installed on the TEMS and TEPS.
    2. Increase message and trace log level.
    3. Locate and analyze the appropriate TEMA log files.
    4. Determine that the appropriate TEMA has started.
    5. Identify and correct JAVA dump errors.
    6. Verify the TEMA is configured correctly.

  5. Given that Robotic Playback issues, TEMS, and TEPS are installed and functioning correctly, investigate the problem so that Playback occurs.


  6. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Verify that the appropriate Robotic Playback script has been loaded into the Application Management Console and agent depot directories.
    2. Test the Robotic Playback script.
    3. Verify the status of the Robotic Playback script.
    4. Locate and analyze the trace Robotic Playback log files.

  7. Given that TEMS and TEPS are installed and functioning correctly, the data collector, Transaction Collector, and the Transaction Reporter are installed, configured, and functioning correctly, and Tivoli Data Warehouse(TDW) is installed and functioning correctly, verify and analyze the data flow between components so that the correct topology of the monitored transactions can be viewed.


  8. With emphasis on performing the following tasks:
    1. Verify and analyze the data flow between the data collector and the Transaction Collector.
    2. Verify and analyze the data flow between the Transaction Collector and the Transaction Reporter.
    3. Verify and analyze that the data is collected in TDW.
