Test LOT-838: IBM Lotus Notes Domino 8 Developing Composite Applications

Tab navigation

Note: This test will be withdrawn on Jun 30 2013.

Lotus highly recommends using a variety of resources to prepare for certification exams. In all cases, you must start with the exam guide to determine which tasks will be covered on the exams. Equally as important, actual hands-on experience is required. From there, we recommend that you choose from the following preparation options.

During your preparation, it is important that you review the exam guide periodically to make sure that all of the material in the exam guide is covered in your choice of preparation methods. It should be noted that there is not a one-to-one correspondence between these preparation methods and the exam.

Exam Guide (Required)

Review the exam competency listing to see the complete listing of possible topics for the exam. Use this as your checklist to determine your weaknesses and areas to which you will want to focus more attention in your studies and preparation. This information also includes recommend prerequisite skills and knowledge.

Experience (Required)

Actual hands-on experience is a critical component in preparing for the exam. Direct application of the skills learned cannot be substituted by any one other resource listed here. You must spend time using the product and applying the skills learned. The exam is looking to measure how well you know how to perform tasks, not how well you memorize features and functions.

Article

This article shows how to build IBM® Lotus® Notes® components, providing some tips and techniques for using your existing Lotus Notes applications in composite applications. Learn how to use the power of composite applications to provide a context that combines information from multiple components and leverages that context when performing tasks.

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an IT architectural style that supports the transformation of your business into a set of linked services, or repeatable business tasks, that can be accessed when needed over a network. This may be a local network, it may be the Internet, or it may be geographically and technologically diverse, combining services in New York, London, and Hong Kong as though they were all installed on your local desktop. These services can coalesce to accomplish a specific business task, enabling your business to quickly adapt to changing conditions and requirements

Redbook

Publication number: SG24-7367-00

This IBM Redbooks publication covers composite applications for desktop solutions that require multiple types of applications to run in a cooperative environment by providing intercommunication between components. Service-oriented architecture (SOA) composite applications deliver high levels of business services and this book covers the architecture, available tools, component considerations, as well as assembling, deploying and wiring components in WebSphere Portal and Rich Client Platforms, such as Lotus Expeditor and Lotus Notes 8. Lotus Expeditor is a client platform for end-to-end smart client application solutions. Expeditor provides services to install and manage these applications and allows users to easily launch and switch among these applications. Expeditor leverages Eclipse technology to provide a client solution that runs on multiple operating systems. The benefits of composite applications include reducing the total cost of ownership for client solutions through reusability of existing components and the sharing of these components across applications, migrating existing applications to run on the client platform, controlling access to applications based on roles assigned to users and improving the user experience by allowing composite application components to easily communicate between them.

Web Resource

The composite application debug tools for IBM Lotus Notes 8 consist of two features, the Property Broker Monitor and the Topology Peek.

Follow along step-by-step as we show you how to create an NSF-based composite application in IBM Lotus Notes V8 using both NSF and Eclipse components. You can reference these procedures when creating your own composite applications.
