Abstract: This course is offered on a limited basis. It has been replaced by course TM500, which covers product version 5.3.2. Get hands-on experience in implementing a data management strategy with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) 5.3 in a Windows environment. Learn to install the IBM TSM 5.3 Server, backup-archive clients, and the Integrated Solution Console Administration Center. Create simple storage pools and subsequently learn to configure hierarchies of storage pools to manage the flow of data from disk to tape media. Learn how storage pools are mapped to the data sent by client nodes through IBM TSM policies that provide the rules to implement data management service level agreements. Learn to define new policy domains, policy sets, management classes, backup copy groups and archive copy groups, and to authorize administrators to perform specific storage tasks. Also, learn how to backup and restore client data as well as manage long-term and offsite data management through archiving and retrieving of client data. After learning to backup and restore and archive and retrieve data, practice automating client operations by creating new IBM TSM schedules. Learn how to protect your IBM TSM server by automating the backup and restore of the IBM TSM databases and storage pools from offsite data storage pools. Course Materials The student exercises in this course are written for Windows 2000.
