Course title:
Querying the IBM U2 Databases
Course duration: 3.0 days
Course number: Global course code (U211xx)
Abstract: In this hands-on, introductory course, focus on how
to query and build reports in the IBM U2 databases. Explore the options and
keywords available with the native query language to select specific records,
sort data, create totals, build and manage control breaks and subtotals, custom
headers and footers, and other formatting options. Learn to use the
LIST, SORT, SELECT, and SSELECT commands. See Remarks for Special
Note.
Application users, database and system administrators, and programmers who
have recently purchased, or who are considering purchasing, either the IBM
UniVerse or IBM UniData databases on UNIX or Windows NT.

Course title:
IBM UniVerse Fundamentals
Course duration: 4.0 days
Course number: UV900
Abstract: Get an introduction to the UniVerse relational
database environment. Learn about the tools and commands used to input data
into storage files, modify data records, and extract the records to produce and
print reports. Build a sample database application including data input through
the UniVerse REVISE processor and reporting using the RETRIEVE processor.
Create menus of stored reports and commands. Also, explore UniVerse commands
that perform ad hoc queries, generate and print reports, and create stored
procedures to gather business information. Learn the UniVerse RETRIEVE syntax
as well as some American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard SQL query
usage. See Remarks for Special Note.
End users, managers, system administrators, and programmers new to the
UniVerse database environment, who need to create custom or ad hoc queries.

Abstract: Develop the system administration skills you need to
manage, maintain, and troubleshoot UniVerse systems. Gain experience analyzing
sample database files and system parameters to tune and optimize performance.
Learn how to modify terminal definition files to correct terminal behavior,
such as proper arrow key and function key operation. Learn about and use the
different data file types, alternate keys, and transaction logging in lecture
and lab exercises. Also, explore other administrative functions, such as print
spooler configuration and control, and user process control. See Remarks
for Special Note.
System administrators and operators and programmers.

Administration (UV904). Get the information you need to make further
administrative decisions regarding configuration, tuning, and monitoring.
Explore the interaction between the UNIX operating system and the UniVerse
database environment, including disk file access, memory usage, and
interprocess communications. Develop an understanding of the UniVerse
architecture to aid in troubleshooting and problem avoidance. See
Remarks for Special Note.
This is an advanced course for system administrators, operators, and
programmers.
