VAE Name: System i Server Consolidation
Eligible Products:
- Power servers — All models
- System i — All models
- MES model/processor upgrades
Minimum VAE Solution requirements:
- Sale, installation, and implementation of an eligible IBM product that must include at least four of the following services:
- Application sizing, migration, and consolidation
- Data integration and consolidation
- Centralization of systems management functions (that is, security, backup, and recovery)
- Consolidation of external or internal local area networks
- Technical implementation services to set up logical partitioning (LPAR) on a Power server or System i
- Technical implementation services to set up AIX, IBM i, or Linux on a Power server or System i
- Technical implementation services to set up an integrated System x solution (IXA/IXS/iSCSI HBA) on a Power server or System i
- Workload balancing and systems design/requirements
- Each server consolidation must result in the consolidation of workload from two or more IBM (servers running AIX, AIX 5L, i5/OS, IBM i, Linux OS/400, Windows) or non-IBM (UNIX servers or Intel-based servers running Linux or Windows) to one of the following:
- A reduced number of servers with one or more IBM i partitions
(LPARs) operational on a new consolidated Power server or System i
- A reduced number of servers supporting at least one new
activated AIX or Linux partition (LPAR) on a new consolidated Power server or
System i.
- A reduced number of servers supporting Windows workload on a Power server or
System i with an Integrated xSeries Server (IXS), Integrated
xSeries Adapter (IXA), or System i SCSI Host Bus Adapter (iSCSI
HBA).
- Activation of a new AIX, IBM i, Linux partition (LPAR) on an
installed Power server or System i.
- Power server or System i with Integrated xSeries Server (IXS) supporting Linux.
- System x attached to a Power server or System i with the Integrated xSeries
Adapter (IXA) supporting Linux or with the System i SCSI Host Bus
Adapter (iSCSI HBA) supporting Linux.
Minimum Firm Eligibility Requirements:
- Certification requirements — at the firm level:
Option 1
- IBM Certified Systems Expert - System i IT Simplification:
Windows, Linux, and AIX 5L Solution Sales V1 or later
AND one of the following:
- IBM Certified Specialist - System i IT Simplification - Linux
Technical V5R4 V1 or later
- IBM Certified Specialist - System i Integration with
BladeCenter and System x V1 or later
