IBM Certified SOA Solution Designer

IBM is pleased to announce the addition of the following job-role certification and applicable test to the Professional Certification Program from IBM (www.ibm.com/certify). This certification is available worldwide on June 9, 2006. By achieving this certification, solution designers can validate their knowledge and skills and demonstrate their technical competence to others.

| Test 665, Architectural Design of SOA Solutions |
This SOA Solution Designer certification validates the ability of the candidate to assess and translate client requirements for business process flexibility and agility into a service-focused software solution using Service Oriented Architecture principles.
This intermediate level certification is intended for consultants and architects with previous experience designing enterprise application components, enterprise business integration solutions, and who are now a part of SOA project teams responsible for architecting the end-to-end design of an SOA solution.
In collaboration with the senior SOA project architect, this SOA Solution Designer:
- Articulates the value of SOA solution in the context of the business strategy
- Gathers and evaluates customer business requirements, identifying and documenting current processes and infrastructure related to the business requirements
- Assesses the client's readiness for SOA organizationally and technically
- Defines an appropriate roadmap for SOA adoption and governance
- Determines services and tasks based on the business process model
- Establishes service definitions that satisfy both functional and non-functional requirements
- Architects the service integration environment and incorporates IBM SOA Foundation and Reference Architectures
- Articulates architectural/design decisions
- Applies existing best practices and technology standards for SOA and services design in the solution implementation
- Provides guidance and review for SOA implementation, deployment and management
To attain the certification credential, candidates must pass Test 665 which is designed to measure skills in the areas of:
- Knowledge of Applied SOA (15%)
- SOA Assessment and Analysis (22%)
- SOA Design (39%)
- SOA Implementation (14%)
- SOA Management and Deployment (10%)
Note: The percentage of each area reflects its actual weighting on the test.
Practical experience and in-depth product knowledge are required to ensure success on the test. To help candidates prepare, the following information is provided, and accessible via the IBM Certified SOA Solution Designer Web page.

Test 665 will be available worldwide on June 9, 2006 via test delivery vendors Prometric Thomson (APTC) and Pearson VUE. To register for a test, refer to the IBM Certified SOA Solution Designer Web page, and contact the test delivery vendor. Test 665 is also available at a reduced rate to IBM employees via Prime, and IBMers can obtain the registration information via certify@us.ibm.com.
Test 665 is a 90 minute test and its test fees are set to the economy of a country... $150 USD in developed countries and $80 in emerging market countries. The test delivery vendor can verify the specific test fee within your country.
