IBM Certified Instructor - Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6.0, Application Development

Job Role Description / Target Audience

The application development instructor is responsible for teaching the following courses:

SW244 - Introduction to Java using IBM Rational Application Developer V6
 
SW284 - Servlet and JSP Development with IBM Rational Application Developer V6
 
SW287 - Developing Web Applications with IBM Rational Application Developer V6

  Core Requirements
  1. Apply to Become Enabled to Teach Application Development V6 Courses

    Instructor applicants must first apply to become enabled to teach these application development courses and sign the Instructor Agreement. At that time, they must provide information showing they have the necessary prerequisite technical skills and instructional background.

    Information on applying to become a WebSphere instructor can be found on the Education Centers for IBM Software (ECIS) Web site.

    1. Prerequisite Technical Skills

      In order to be accepted to become enabled to teach these application development courses, the instructor must have a Java programming background and experience programming with servlets and JSPs.

    2. Prerequisite Instructional Background

      As a general requirement, in order to be accepted for enablement to teach WebSphere courses, there must be a demonstration of instructional skills. This requirement can be satisfied in any of the following ways:

      1. Present an industry instructor certification, such as (but not limited to):
        • Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+)
        • Certified Lotus Instructor
        • Tivoli Certified Instructor
        • Certified Novell Instructor

      2. If the instructor has not previously obtained an industry instructor certification, then a CTT+ certification can be earned from CompTIA.

      3. Documentation of previous technical training experience. The following information is required:
        • A description of technical training courses conducted during the past 12 months, including vendor name, class dates and number of students per class.
        • A copy of the student evaluation forms from three (3) recent classes.

      4. WebSphere ECIS management may allow assessment of technical training skills by a WebSphere ECIS-certified instructor approved by WebSphere ECIS management. This option may require one or more coteaching assignments before the instructor becomes "certified to teach" this course.

  2. When accepted by WebSphere ECIS management, the remaining steps may be completed.

  3. Attend an Application Development V6 Instructor Enablement Session

    In an application development instructor enablement session, the instructor gains the knowledge and ability to teach these courses.

  4. Pass an Application Development V6 Instructor Assessment Session

    Following enablement, instructor will need to attend an application development instructor assessment session and pass assessment by an IBM-certified instructor approved by WebSphere ECIS management.

    "Authorized to Teach" Status

    Passing assessment earns the "authorized to teach" status for SW246. The following additional requirements to become a certified instructor must be met within 90 days of becoming "authorized to teach" and may be completed in either order.

  5. Pass the Professional Certification Test

    To demonstrate technical depth and breadth, the instructor needs to pass either one of these two tests:

    Test 255, Developing with IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6

    Test 256, Application Development with IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6.0

  6. Successfully Teach SW284 or SW287

    The instructor is required to successfully teach at least one offering of SW284 or SW287. Student feedback showing a successful teaching experience must be provided to WebSphere ECIS management for evaluation.
