Job Role Description / Target Audience
This certification targets intermediate level mainframe application developers. The application developer is an individual who uses IBM Rational Developer for System z to develop mainframe applications mainly in COBOL and PL/I to deploy them to CICS, IMS, or batch; and to access data from DB2. Such applications may include complex COBOL and PL/I constructs using DB2 data, web services, service flow, and interaction with other runtimes like WebSphere Application Server or WebSphere Process Server.
This individual designs, develops, and debugs these applications and then deploys them to the appropriate runtime, and possesses an in-depth understanding of mainframe development process, the mainframe runtime environments, and web services.
To attain the IBM Certified Application Developer - Rational Developer for System z Version 7.6 certification, candidates must pass 1 test.
Recommended Prerequisite Skills
- Conceptual understanding and operational (hands-on) knowledge of Rational Developer for System z v7.6
- Fluency in application development using COBOL and/or PL/I that may involve data access to VSAM files, DB2 databases and others.
- Working knowledge of various runtimes such as CICS, IMS, and batch
- Conceptual understanding and practical experience with SOA and web services development
