This certification is intended for Storage specialists focusing on IBM System x, BladeCenter and similar servers. Candidates for the IBM High Volume Storage Specialist V3 exam perform requirements analysis, architecture development/solution design, and planning. This specialist takes a consultative approach to sales and technical issues. The IBM High Volume Storage Specialist has a wide range of pre-sales technical knowledge about entry level and selected midrange storage products, and has the skills to integrate those products into customer solutions. This specialist understands and is able to explain tape and disk products as well as a high level demonstration of storage networking product concepts. This specialist has a basic understanding of virtualized environments. This exam includes storage management software. The certified individual can describe networked storage strategies and solutions, the storage industry as well as the competition, and business trends and directions.
Storage products included in this exam include the IBM Storwize V3700, System Storage DS3500 and DCS3700, and basic knowledge of entry N series systems; SAN switches including internal BladeCenter and Flex System; IBM LTO tape drives (DS2360 Express, TS2350 Express, TS2340 Express, RDX drives), cartridges, entry libraries (TS3200 Express, TS3100 Express, TS2900, LTFS); general knowledge of IBM SAN Volume Controller, Tivoli Storage Productivity Center and IBM Systems Director.
This specialist can perform the following tasks without assistance: Fundamental technical knowledge of high volume storage products; gather customer requirements and architect a high volume storage solution; identify and engage correct resources; identify competitors; general knowledge of the IBM storage portfolio, and correctly position based on customer requirements; present the recommended IBM storage solution to the customer; articulate features and benefits of IBM storage products and maintenance; fundamental knowledge of cabling requirements; fundamental knowledge of disk replication; fundamental knowledge of disk system premium features, host attach connectivity, and dynamic features; general knowledge of RAID, Easy Tier, and FlashCopy; deliver a Customer Support Plan.
This specialist can perform the following tasks with assistance: Identify the correct subject matter expert to assist with the technical sales process; respond to an RFP within the entry storage scope; identify the correct subject matter expert to provide deep technical knowledge of the product or solution; fundamental knowledge of post-installation support; conduct a Technical Delivery Assessment.
Recommended Prerequisite Skills
Minimum 9 months of general technical storage experience with high volume storage solutions.
