IBM Certified Specialist - Systems Storage Solution Design Entry/Midrange for DS Series v1


Job Role Description / Target Audience

The IBM System Storage certified specialist will be able effectively identify and solve customer-s business needs and growth opportunities by performing requirement analysis, architecture development/solution design, planning/implementing for DS3000, DS4000 and DS5000 storage solutions.  This certification is designed for technical professionals that have detailed knowledge about IBM disk products, technologies and offerings. This professional takes a consultative approach to support sales and can describe disk storage strategy and OS, servers, switch solutions in the storage industry.  This technical person has the ability validate that client business objectives have been met and transfer of knowledge to clients related to storage issues:
  • Identify existing infrastructure and customer requirements and business growth strategy. 
  • Perform requirement analysis, architecture development/solution design, planning and implementation.   
  • Consider the technical capabilities and features of switches and various related protocols 

The certification candidate should be well grounded in the understanding that recovery strategies, virtualization, and storage management are key to successful implementations. The certification candidate should be comfortable using the following tools: DS3000, DS4000, DS5000 Storage Manager, storage simulator interoperability matrix, SupportLine, Tech Express, RTS, bandwidth estimator, storage calculator Exchange Estimator, Storage Sizing Estimaort for Oracle, and Disk Magic.

The purpose of this certification is to insure that candidates demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively consult and support sales by performing requirements anayis, solution design and planning/installation for small and mid range storage system solutions.

DS3000, DS4000, DS5000 Storage Sales Certification is designed to
  • Improve customer satisfaction with properly designed and planned solutions to match business needs
  • Increase the skill level of BPs and IBMers integrating products into customer solutions 
  • Increase the skill level of IBMers performing planning and installation analysis
  • Validate the skill level of BPs architecting solutions for the small and mid range products


Recommended Prerequisite Skills

Candidates for certification are in pre-sales technical roles for IBM or IBM Business Partners selling the DS5000.  Business Partners may be required to pass this test to sell the DS5000 product. 

Certification candidates should have:
  • Two years of experience architecting, designing and implementing storage solutions
  • Two years experience DS3000 or DS4000 disk operations in multiple server and OS platforms
  • Capability to work independently and effectively in complex environments
