Job Role Description / Target Audience

This intermediate level certification is intended for system administrators that perform the installation, configuration and day-to-day tasks associated with ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the WebSphere Process Server runtime environment. This includes product installation, configuration and deployment of business processes and adapters, connecting to back-end resources and basic troubleshooting. These individuals tune the WebSphere Process Server runtime environment with respect to resource utilization, scaling, clustering and load balancing as appropriate.  These individuals also have a good grasp on fundamentals of Service-Oriented Architecture and are able to articulate business and technical values of SOA, identify the barriers to adopting SOA in their organization, can participate in crafting and enforcing SOA governance and help bridge the gap between business and technical teams.

This system administrator is generally self-sufficient, and is able to perform most of the tasks involved in the role with limited assistance from peers, product documentation and vendor support services.

Recommended Prerequisite Skills

Test 253 or 806:
  • Good understanding of WebSphere runtime topologies 
  • Good understanding of HTTP server concepts 
  • Good understanding of basic Internet concepts (e.g., firewalls, web browsers, TCP/IP, SSL, HTTP, etc.) 
  • Good understanding of standard markup languages such as XML and HTML 
  • Basic knowledge of Web services (e.g., SOAP, UDDI, WSDL, etc.) 
  • Basic knowledge of relational database management systems 
  • Basic knowledge of bean scripting framework languages 
  • Be able to describe differences between the various WebSphere Application Server V6 editions
  • basic WebSphere administration skills
  • basic J2EE knowledge
  • basic WebSphere security concepts
  • basic Web application architecture and deployments
  • basic understanding of operating systems
  • basic clustering and failover techniques
  • troubleshooting and problem determination skills

Test 669 or 667:
  • Familiarity with SOA
  • Basic understanding of Web Services, messaging and other related technologies 
  • Basic understanding of business requirements

Test 995:
  • Good understanding of Business Process and Business Process Choreographer 
  • Good understanding of Business Flow Manager and Human Task Manager
  • Good understanding of WebSphere Process Server Architecture (SOA core, supporting services, and service components)
  • Good understanding of Business Rules Manager
  • Good understanding of Common Event Infrastructure (CEI)
  • Good understanding of WebSphere Adapters
  • Good understanding of WebSphere Platform Messaging
  • Basic knowledge of WebSphere Integration Developer application development life cycle

This certification requires 3 test(s).

Test(s):

  1. Any 1 of the following tests:
    1. Test 253 - IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V6.1, Core Administration
    2. Test 806 - IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V6.1, Advanced Administration
  2. Any 1 of the following tests:
    1. Test 667 - Architectural Design of SOA Solutions
    2. Test 669 - SOA Fundamentals [2008]
  3. Test 995 - IBM WebSphere Process Server V6.1, System Administration


Note: The following two test-taking sequences are recommended
  • (253 or 806) --> 995 --> (669 or 667)
  • (669 or 667) --> (253 or 806) --> 995


Each test:
  1. contains questions requiring single and multiple answers.  For multiple-answer questions, you need to choose all required options to get the answer correct. You will be advised how many options make up the correct answer.  
  2. is designed to provide diagnostic feedback on the Examination Score Report, correlating back to the test objectives, informing the test taker how he or she did on each section of the test. As a result, to maintain the integrity of each test, questions and answers are not distributed
