Job Role Description / Target Audience

The IBM Certified Specialist - System i IT Simplification - Linux Technical V5R4 has two to three years experience with System i, including one year specifically with doing System i Linux. 

The target audience for this certification is technical personnel: System i Business Partners, IBM System i personnel such as FTSS and ATS, and Customers.


Recommended Skills

Recommended experience:
  • Experience in design, setup of the system, Linux installation, and implementation of infrastructure solutions involving Linux on POWER on System i
  • Two to three years experience with System i, including one year specifically with doing System i Linux (for example, experience consisting of taking a college course on System i would not be sufficient). 
  • Experience participating in at least 3 to 4 Linux engagements in design, system setup, installation, and implementation of infrastructure solutions involving Linux on POWER on System i. 
  • General experience with enterprise level Linux distributions such as SUSE and Red Hat.
  • General experience in Linux administration, including network-based services and configuration of infrastructure solutions such as Samba and Apache.

Recommended knowledge:
  • Understands System i, POWER5, and i5/OS V5R4 from a general design and implementation perspective.
  • Has familiarity with the IBM System i System Handbook and System Builder (V5R4 and two previous versions).
  • Understands the System i product portfolio, including the current release and hardware, and previous releases and generations.
