The IBM Certified Operator - IBM i 6.1 Basic Operations is a professional who has a combination of classroom education and 6-18 months of on-the-job experience.  This person can run a variety of jobs, manages tapes and printers, performs basic user management tasks, monitors the system and reacts appropriately to system messages.  He or she understands subsystems, pools, and system values at a high level, and can use the Console, common commands, System i Navigator and Management Central.  The Certified Operator understands job interdependencies, performs basic problem determination and involves the System Administrator when appropriate.

Recommended Prerequisite Skills

The successful candidate understands and can work with minimal or no supervision in the following areas:

  • - Performing Saves and Restores
  • - Managing Users- Managing Printers and Tapes
  • - Monitoring and Managing the System
  • - Performing Common Tasks.
