Solid is the leading supplier of embedded data management, focusing
mainly on the telco and network infrastructure markets. Solid delivers
an Autonomic Data Management Platform built from a product suite that
uniquely combines a simple to use, high-performance, embeddable database
engine with robust, carrier-grade availability, and automated intelligent
data distribution. Requiring effectively no management, the Solid platform
supports the development of applications that are self-configuring, self-healing,
self-optimizing, and self-protecting. By providing critical data management
functionality, Solid enables infrastructure developers to create advanced
applications faster and at lower total cost of ownership.
While the Solid Platform can autonomically manage itself, it needs a
higher level manager to take care of the system as a whole when performing
tasks that fall outside the Solid view, such as requesting operator intervention
to replace downed hardware. The integration of the Solid Platform with
the IBM Autonomic Management Engine provides network infrastructure developers
with a highly autonomic environment.
"Autonomic computing is not just for the enterprise data center.
Market forces are driving carriers to constantly reduce capital and operational
expenditures as they build out the IP network infrastructure. Architecting
systems so that they automatically take care of themselves is the key
to reducing costs.”
- Jussi Harvela, Solid CEO

Solid provides a fast, lightweight, and
reliable distributed database management system for network infrastructure
applications. With help from the IBM Innovation Center, Solid has integrated
its BoostEngine with the IBM autonomic framework, so that the BoostEngine
log entries are converted to Common Base Objects which can be interpreted
by the IBM Autonomic Management Engine (AME). The combination of Solid
and the AME extends IBM’s autonomic reach from the enterprise data
center to the network infrastructure, enabling autonomic management of
the applications used to run the IP network infrastructure. The combined
autonomic solution speeds time to market and reduces the cost of ownership
for network applications.
