Autonomic computing and Net Integration Technologies

Back in 1999, Net Integration Technologies sold the world's first Autonomic Operating System. This was in the form of a self-configuring, self-healing, self-optimizing appliance server device that could protect itself with an automatically configured firewall. More recently, Nitix has been separated from its "server appliance" roots and runs on heavier-grade PC server hardware like the IBM eSeriesTM xServer® platforms.

"IBM's vision for Autonomic Computing is truly leading the industry. Until we partnered with IBM, we didn't see the whole picture--we were building all-in-one servers that could manage only themselves, but nothing more. Now, with Nitix AE, we're working with IBM to really change the way enterprise networks are run."
— Avery Pennarun, Chief Scientist, Net Integration Technologies

Self-managing technologies:  Self-healing
Net Integration Technologies solution:  Nitix AE

Net Integration Technologies solution
Partnering with IBM, Net Integration launched a project to integrate Nitix's autonomic technology with IBM's. As a result, Nitix AE (Autonomic Edition), when released in Q3' 05, will be able to host IBM's Autonomic Management Engine (AME) and Integrated Solutions Console (ISC), forming the hub of an autonomic network. Nitix AE systems also produce log messages and events compatible with IBM's General Log Adapter (GLA) and Common Base Events (CBE) standards--enabling Nitix servers to join in and be managed on any autonomic network supporting IBM's open standards.
