Autonomic computing and mValent

mValent makes enterprises more competitive by ensuring that software initiatives are properly defined and resources are properly provisioned. The solution employs a Dynamic Configuration Model™ --capable of delivering automation repeatability and manageability to infrastructure configuration management, saving thousands of man-hours, eliminating errors and speeding the application deployment process.

mValent and IBM technologies have integrated to provide a complete, end-to-end solution for provisioning and lifecycle configuration management. Integration work has been done in the following areas:

  • WebSphere® Application Server: mValent has developed an “Automation Module” specifically for IBM WebSphere Application Server for use in automating WebSphere software-related IT tasks, such as cloning environments.
  • Linux®, z/OS®, MQ Series® and DB2®: mValent can accurately track when a change has been made to a configuration file pertaining to the management of these technologies.
  • IBM Rational® ClearCase® Integration: mValent makes use of the ClearCase API to enable “Load” and “Check in” operations to and from Rational ClearCase.
  • IBM Tivoli® OPAL Integration: mValent’s “Automation Package for Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator” (available Q1 2005 from www.mvalent.com) delivers fully validated configuration sets for use within IBM’s OPAL (orchestration and provisioning) On-Demand automated provisioning solution.
  • IBM Autonomic Toolkit: Error conditions logged within mValent’s log stream are converted to Common Base Event Format, and passed to the Autonomic Management Engine for analysis and action.

Joint customers benefit from faster application deployment, streamlined IT processes and dramatically reduced risk of human error in day-to-day configuration, change and release management routines.

“mValent’s integration with IBM’s Autonomic Toolkit allows us to jointly deliver solutions that help our customers easily and automatically manage complex application infrastructures. This technology extends the existing mValent and IBM relationship by providing enterprises with new, more efficient ways to manage applications that support critical business functions.”
- Swapnil Shah, president and CEO of mValent.

Self-managing technologies: Self-configuring, Self-optimizing
mValent solution: mValent Infrastructure Automation Suite

mValent solution

mValent Infrastructure Automation Suite eliminates the effects of "configuration chaos" by creating an actionable configuration management database (CMDB) and automating key processes associated with managing configuration files across complex, distributed infrastructure environments.

mValent's technology streamlines the process of delivering Web-based applications to production and helps surpass 99.999% availability after they come on line. The mValent Infrastructure Automation Suite addresses the following problem areas in the IT Infrastructure team:

  • Application downtime due to configuration errors
  • Application backlog due to overwhelming change requests and new environment builds
  • Supporting distributed & offshore environments
  • Implementing ITIL processes for Change, Configuration and Release Management

In addition to providing a versatile means of viewing the entire application infrastructure, the mValent Infrastructure Automation Suite delivers the ability to drill down and modify configuration parameters residing within managed Web servers, application servers, databases and more. This level of control allows time-consuming tasks such as comparing environments or pushing new settings out to multiple systems to be fully automated. mValent's solution provides a flexible foundation for the IT Infrastructure team to implement repeatable, policy-based approaches to IT infrastructure configuration, change and release management.
