Captions are provided for live multimedia.

Rationale
The purpose of this checkpoint is that equivalent alternatives are provided for any multimedia presentation, including live multimedia. These equivalent alternatives must be synchronized with the presentation. This is normally done through computer assisted real time (CART) captioning, where an operator listens to the call, and then repeats the content back out loud. At that point, a voice recognition software package trained to their voice creates the live captions.
Required development techniques
Compliance with this checkpoint requires the following technique to be met.
- Live captions: Create captions for live multimedia.
Examples for General developers

For additional information and examples, refer to WCAG 2.0 examples for Creating captions for live synchronized media (link resides outside of ibm.com) and Captions (live) (link resides outside of ibm.com).

The techniques above are required; the following techniques are recommended to enhance accessibility:
- Ensure your captions adhere to WCAG 2.0 captioning guidelines (link resides outside of ibm.com).
- Provide a note saying "No sound is used in this clip" for video-only clips. Use SMIL 1.0 to provide captions for all languages for which there are audio tracks.
